At the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center (CFBOC), we are deeply honored to celebrate the life and legacy of Mary Ellen Fields Bowery. Mary’s incredible generosity has provided a gift that will nourish and uplift countless families in Chesterfield for years to come. Her legacy donation, the largest in CFBOC’s history, will supply an astounding 732,000 meals to families in need—an impact that reflects her unwavering faith, kindness, and love for her community.
A Life of Service and Faith
Born in 1946 in Richmond, Virginia, Mary lived a life anchored in service, kindness, and love. A graduate of George Wythe High School, Mary built a distinguished 26-year career at DuPont, where her work ethic and commitment to excellence inspired her colleagues.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary’s life revolved around her faith. An active member of Jahnke Road Baptist Church and Webber Memorial Church, Mary found strength and purpose through her trust in God. Her faith sustained her through life’s challenges, including the heartbreaking loss of her beloved son, P. Blake McLean, and guided her toward a life defined by compassion and generosity.
Supporting the Chesterfield Community
Mary’s love for Chesterfield was evident in her dedication to the Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center. A frequent volunteer and financial supporter, Mary’s efforts ensured that local families had access to food and hope during times of hardship. Her historic legacy gift will allow CFBOC to expand its mission, not only providing meals but also supporting programs that empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty. Whether through our client advocate program, community outreach, or expanded food distribution efforts, Mary’s generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of thousands.
